2/25/2015

Source: myjoyonline.com  -  School children in the Western and Volta Regions have received a total of 20,000 branded exercise books last week, from Samara Group of Companies, to help improve their education.

The distribution was carried out in over twenty (20) Districts, Municipal Assemblies and towns across the two regions on different dates, through their regional representatives of the 2014 Ghana’s Most Beautiful (GMB) show (Nana, Western and Ewoe, Volta), organized by TV3...
Each region had 10,000 books for its selected school children. The pictures of the ladies are embossed on the books.
In the Western Region, pupils were selected across districts, municipal and towns including Sekondi-Takoradi Municipal Assembly (STMA), Axim, Tarkwa, Asankragwa, Bogoso and Wassa Akropong.
The books were provided by Samara Group of Companies, producers of Sasso Insecticide Spray and Coil, as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility, to be distributed to school children in all ten regions of Ghana.
The Western and Volta Regions' distribution make a total of 40,000 branded exercise books so far, as school children in the Brong Ahafo and Central Regions received their portion of the branded exercise books in December last year.

The Deputy Director of Finance and Administration at the Western Regional Education Directorate, Mr. Paul A. Numah, representing the Western Regional Director of Education, lauded the move by Samara Group to improve the education of school children in the Western Region.

He said the government, parents, and the community are the major stakeholders of education, and therefore they all need to come on board if education of the children should be taken seriously.

Mr. Numah said the government has supplied the children with school uniforms books and other learning materials but also needed assistance from corporate bodies because the government “cannot do it all”.

He said the Western Regional Education Directorate would put measures in place to monitor the effective use of the books by the pupils, and called on other corporate bodies to emulate the gesture by Samara Group.

In the Volta Region, beneficiary schools included: A.M.E Zion Basic School; Keta RC Convent girls, Bright Future School, Duta School, Avoeme School, Border School in Aflao; Ben Oxford School, Akwetey Basic School, Agotime EP School, Ho Toviadzi Pneuma Academy, St Joseph School and Methodist school.

The schools were selected from seven different traditional areas including Keta Traditional Area, Aflao Traditional area, Agotime Kpetoe Traditional Area, Ho Asogli State, Kpando Akpini Traditional Area, Hohoe Traditional area and Likpe Traditional Area.

The Paramount Chief of Agotime Kpetoe Traditional Area, Nene Nuer Keteku III, lauded the initiative of Samara Group of Company to give out such a significant number of exercise books to pupils of the Volta Region.

He said the books would help solve many challenges with basic necessities some of the children face in their education life, adding that the books would also relieve parents of the burden to buy exercise books, and also complement the government’s efforts in providing the children with exercise books.

Nene Keteku III also lauded the Ghana's Most beautiful contest, saying it is a good platform to promote the beautiful Ghanaian culture.

Marketing Manager of Samara Group, Mr. Sedrick Nartey Ologo, disclosed that the gesture was part of Samara Group’s corporate social responsibilities which included promotion of education, culture and health.

Mr. Ologo said that education was a surer way to success and so the pupils needed to be equipped with basic learning materials which would enhance their studies and also help them in school.

He said the distribution of the 10,000 branded exercise books would go a long way to compliment parents and the government’s efforts in providing books and other learning materials to the pupils.

He urged the beneficiaries of the books to take their education seriously, and hinted that school children in the Northern, Upper East, Upper West, Ashanti, Eastern and Greater Accra Regions will receive their books in the coming weeks.

Speaking separately during the distribution exercise, Nana Agyeiwaa, the Western Regional representative and Solace Ewoenam Ekpedzor, Volta regional representative urged the pupils to take good care of the books and also take their education seriously.
