Source: Daily Graphic Ghana - Mr Samuel Adae-Amoako, the National Organiser of the erstwhile People's National Party (PNP), has said former President Kwame Nkrumah had no hand in the death of Dr J.B.Danquah.
In the light of this, he does not need forgiveness from any quarters, particularly from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), he stated.
Dr Danquah died in prison following his arrest under the Prevention Detention Act (PDA).
Speaking on the theme: “Danquah, the unfinished agenda” at a memorial lecture to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of Dr J.B Danquah in Accra last Wednesday (February 4), the 2016 flag bearer of the NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, said; “We must all forgo all feelings of bitterness and say unreservedly to Kwame Nkrumah, his family and his supporters that we forgive what took place on that day.”
Nana Akufo-Addo eulogised Dr Danquah and described him as a “selfless, forgiving and a principled patriot” and added that the family and lovers of the late Dr Danquah had forgiven Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah for abandoning him to eventually die in prison.
Speaking to the Daily Graphic, Mr Adae-Amoako called on Nana Akufo-Addo to do well to address national issues such as the abysmal performance of the country's economy and high level of youth unemployment.
He stressed that the most important issue of today was why the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and NPP had failed the youth, the poor, the vulnerable and in particular the whole nation.
Mr Adae-Amoako said the NPP— the successor party of numerous defunct (Matemeho) parties—should rather be ashamed of the role some of its members played in over seven attempted coups d’etat to destabilise Nkrumah's CPP administration.
He alleged that those plots were made not only to assassinate Nkrumah but also dismember the CPP and its structures.
The unfortunate and sad consequence, Mr Adae-Amoako stressed, was the destruction of the economy and poor behaviour of the youth today.
Therefore, he said Kwame Nkrumah, his family, the CPP in particular and the whole country rather needed apology and not forgiveness from the perpetrators.
He noted that while Kwame Nkrumah asked for ‘Self-Government now’ when the people of Ghana supported him to achieve independence for Gold Coast, now Ghana, Dr J. B. Danquah on the other hand asked for Self-Government STEP BY STEP, which the people of Ghana rejected.
“'This is the only crime of Kwame Nkrumah in the minds of J. B. Danquah and his henchmen. How and why Kwame Nkrumah is always be blamed for a crime he did not commit and has not committed is worrying,” he declared.
