Accra Flood & Fire: “The untold truth is that the Circle interchange contributed to the floods… Government contributed to the loss of lives because there were no access routes created by contractors at the Circle interchange…,” Ebola vaccine trial in the Volta Region: The NPP youth organiser is baffled by government's decision to undertake the trial of such an unproven drug for such a deadly disease when Ghana escaped the havoc it wreaked in West Africa, especially in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone. Source: adomonline.com - The National Youth Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammi Awuku says there are times that he really feels bad for criticizing late President John Evans Atta Mills during his three-and-half-year rule. “When I watch the performance of John Mahama, sometimes I feel bad for criticizing John Mills…,” he said on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show on Wednesday.
Sammi Awuku, who was commenting on the on-going Ebola vaccine trial in the Volta Region and the flood and fire disaster that killed about two hundred persons, said the government does not cease to amaze him. The NPP youth organiser is baffled by government's decision to undertake the trial of such an unproven drug for such a deadly disease when Ghana escaped the havoc it wreaked in West Africa, especially in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone. “We are just coming from one disaster and now another vaccine on Ebola…I think this is a disaster-prone government…,” he said. On the week-old Nkrumah Circle flood and fire disaster, Sammi called on Ghanaians to lay the blame at the doorstep of government, arguing that he does not see the logic behind calls for the non-politicisation of the disaster. To him, the time is long overdue for ‘someone to be held responsible for the deaths of people’. The NPP Youth Leader further opined that the ongoing construction at the Nkrumah Circle contributed in large measure to the drowning of many persons. “The untold truth is that the Circle interchange contributed to the floods… Government contributed to the loss of lives because there were no access routes created by contractors at the Circle interchange…,” he added. This argument he said adds to his call for ‘someone to be charged’ for the loss of several lives. On the ongoing demolition of buildings in water ways, Sammi opined believes it would further exacerbate the already bad flood situation in the capital as the debris from the demolition would choke gutters. |
