Source: Daily Graphic Ghana - GCB Bank Limited has donated 2000 copies of books valued at GH¢40,000 to the Ghana Library Authority for distribution to libraries and schools across the country.
The bank funded the publication of a book titled: ‘Anansesem-Adventures of Kweku Ananse,’ authored by Abyna Ansaha Adjei and published by Frangipani Books Limited. The Chief Operating Officer of the bank, Mr Samuel Sarpong, presented the books to Mr Kwame Tenkorang, Executive Director of the Ghana Library Authority, and Mr Guy Amarteifio, the Greater Accra Regional Librarian, during the celebration of the International Children’s Book Day in Accra. Mr Sarpong said between 2012 and 2014, GCB spent a total of GH¢4 million on corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the areas of education, poverty reduction, water and sanitation. As a bank, he explained that GCB was doing a lot in terms of corporate social responsibility and that education was an integral part of the bank’s CSR programme. In December 2013, GCB Bank handed over an ultra-modern five-unit classroom facility constructed at a cost of GH¢40,000 to the Fawoman D/A Primary School at Fawoman in the Ahafo Ano South District in the Ashanti Region. In 2012, GCB Bank presented a total amount of GH¢2.103 million to the University of Energy and Natural Resources and the University of Health and Allied Sciences to support the expansion of infrastructure in these institutions. Mr Sarpong announced that the bank was currently constructing a classroom block for the Bomaa Roman Catholic Junior High School in the Brong Ahafo Region. “Our donation of 2,000 books valued at GH¢40,000 to the Ghana Library Authority is another gesture of the healthy relationship between GCB and the authority for the benefit of schoolchildren and the reading public,” he said. Mr Amarteifio commended the bank for the donation and appealed to other corporate organisations to emulate the example of GCB Bank. |
