Source: myjoyonline.com - The National Disaster Management Organization(NADMO) says more than eight thousand people displaced or affected by last Wednesday’s flooding and fire disasters in Accra are still in need of basic supplies such as food and water.
Osu Clottey NADMO Coordinator, William Ayensu says his team has been collecting an overwhelming data on victims within the past two days and there are signs that increasing number of people will be needing help in the coming days.
Although material support has been streaming in since Friday, more will be needed to help the enclave of deprivation found at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.
“We need more support” William Ayensu appealed. Food and water are on the top of an itemized list of dire needs, he noted.
He also asked for more mattresses, pillows, buckets, bowls and more of what is being supplied since Saturday and through Sunday.
Many houses, particularly those around the Kwame Nkrumah Avenue were submerged or collapsed after severe flooding in Accra and an explosion at a fuel station resulted in the death of more than a 100 people who sought refuge at the Goil filling station and other shops nearby.
