GhanaWeb News: "Who is now the criminal, permitting criminal EBOLA Vaccine tests? Are they out of their mind, or just after the money?" "Ironically, the trial of the VSV Ebov vaccine was rejected by several countries including USA, Italy, France, United Kingdom, Russia, Germany and Canada for its unspecified adverse effects." Source: adomonline.com - The spokesperson for the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has revealed that the Minister of Health knew of the ongoing trial of Ebola vaccines in Ghana. Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show on Wednesday, James Lartey said the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) received an application for the trial of the vaccine to take place in Ghana and proceeded to review it. “[After assessing the application], together with the minister, we concluded that this thing can help [and] I can give you the assurance that what is going to be done, approval has been given by us [FDA] in consultation with the minister…,” he said. He however failed to mention the particular health minister who gave his approval for the Ebola Vaccine to be tried in Ghana. Upon receipt of the application, he said the body drew several international agencies including Health Canada and the World Health Orgnaisation (WHO) attention to it and they helped review the protocol on the trial of the Ebola vaccine in Ghana. Ghanaians have protested against the use of the Hohoe Midwifery School in the Volta Region for the clinical trials of the VSV Ebov vaccine produced by pharmaceutical company, Johnson & Johnson. Interestingly, Mr Lartey claimed the approval was given a few days ago, but a letter intercepted by Adomonline.com indicates as far back as April 16, 2015, Dr Margaret Quarcoo, a senior official of the University of Health and Allied Sciences, who is also the Municipal Chief Executive for Hohoe, had invited chiefs to a programme to educate them on the trial for which approval had already been given. Ironically, the trial of the VSV Ebov vaccine was rejected by several countries including USA, Italy, France, United Kingdom, Russia, Germany and Canada for its unspecified adverse effects. Reports indicate that persons who volunteer for the trials are given an amount of Ghc200.00 and a mobile phone after the drug is tested on them. This contravenes a WHO directive that persons who are used for clinical trials of vaccines be given an amount of $280 and a Health bursary. The FDA spokesperson claimed on the show that he could not confirm whether doctors sent from Ghana to help contain the Ebola Virus Disease in other West African countries were informed before the trials took off in Ghana. WHO said clinical trials for about fifteen vaccines are in various stages of trials indicating that they are ‘not safe’ for use. The map below, showing how easy it would be, to seal off Hohoe, form the rest of Ghana..., and Togo. Hohoe is largely surrounded bu mountains and un-easy bush-land and deep forest. There is only one main road, passing Hohoe. What is: A vaccine trial is a clinical trial that aims at establishing the safety and efficacy of a vaccine prior to it being licensed...
