Source: peacefmonline.com - National Youth Organizer of the Progressive People's Party, Divine Nkrumah has described as "bogus" the Mahama-led government's flyover construction at Circle in Accra.
President John Mahama, on Friday, August 7, cut the tape to open two flyovers of the Kwame Nkrumah Circle interchange, signifying the completion of the first phase of the project which is to help ease traffic congestion in one of the busiest areas of Accra.
The Akasanoma Road that links the Nsawam Road, around the Vodafone building, and the other one which links the Nsawam Road to the Nkrumah Avenue, around the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) building, opened to traffic last week after the inauguration by the President.
A third flyover under construction plus other works – a new statue of Ghana’s first President Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, a fountain and a police post, new lorry parks – among others, are expected to be completed and inaugurated before June 2016.
But to the PPP National Youth Organizer, the country is not ready for the Circle Interchange.
In a panel discussion regarding the activities of the Mahama administration on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Divine Nkrumah strongly believed the government has misplaced its priorities. He pointed that there are lots of pressing issues that the government needs to address in various sectors of the economy but clearly not the Circle interchange.
“The reconstruction of that road is a bogus project. How can you decide to construct an interchange at Circle, and by so doing, move traffic congestion from that area (Circle) and dump it at Obetsebi Lamptey which is just about 300 meters away? What lack of foresight is this? You move traffic from Circle to Avenor, why… So, what is the plan?”
He advised that President John Mahama together with the government must "demonstrate competence over mediocrity."
