Source: GNA  -  Dr Alexis M. Nang-Beifubah, the Ashanti Regional Director of Health Services, has called on the media to help erase the misconceptions surrounding the Ebola vaccine trials.

The health director, who was answering questions at a media briefing as to why health personnel were not used for the test process, said the vaccine would need ‘virgin grounds’ - people from the rural areas who do not have contacts with many people, to get accurate full-proof scientific results....

Source: The Chronicle  -  The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako has commended Members of Parliament for pulling a break on the intended trial of the Ebola Vaccine in the Volta Region.

The NPP chairman said the move by Parliament of Ghana was in the right order, wondering how government, under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, could allow such an exercise to be conducted in his homeland, without the necessary education and approval.

Source: Canada.com  - TORONTO - A Canadian company that had been developing an Ebola drug says a clinical trial of the experimental product has been stopped.

Tekmira Pharmaceuticals says the trial was halted because it seemed clear that continuing was not likely to show that the drug works.

The drug is called TKM-Ebola. It was being tested with Ebola patients in Sierra Leone.

Dr. Peter Horby, the chief investigator of the trial, says the drug has not been shown to benefit patients. - Read More -

The "Marburg" virus was named after the location of the first outbreak in 1967 in Marburg. (Germany).
During these outbreaks, 31 people became infected and seven of them died.
Aug 26, 1976 - First known outbreak of Ebola virus in Yambuku, Zaire.
In 2009, expanded clinical trials of an Ebola and Marburg vaccine 
began in Kampala, Uganda.

The Ministry of Health will from Thursday, June 18 begin a sensitisation exercise in the Greater Accra Region on the impending Ebola vaccine clinical trial.
