Source: citifmonline.com - Some residents of the Bimbila township in the Northern Region are living in constant fear because of ongoing reprisal attacks, some of them have told Citi News. Police reports have pegged the death toll at 13 following renewed clashes in Bimbila.
Some residents of the Nanun traditional area have claimed that over 30 dead bodies have been discovered. A former District Chief Executive for Nanumba North, Salifu Saeed alias SS also in a Citi News interview contested the 13 official death toll. He said; “Frankly speaking the figures are alarming: the 13 is official figure but when you go to the ground is alarming because they are still discovering dead bodies in the bushes.” He lamented, “dead bodies they can’t even pick and send them to the cemetery, they just need to bury them on the spot because the bodies are getting decomposed: it’s terrible, it’s sad, the numbers are more than that but as somebody who has also been in charge of security in the area I am very skeptical in mentioning the figure but is more than the 13.” Salifu Saeed called for political neutrality in handling the Bimbila chieftaincy crisis. “Currently they are working on the eastern corridor road and because of that a lot of investors want to go and invest along the eastern corridor belt but this thing is scaring away investors and our people are suffering: so I want to appeal to my people, please let us come to together and see what we can do, let’s take off politics out of this thing and see how we can see each other as one people and forge ahead so that we can see development.” |
