Source: Daily Graphic Ghana - A 45-year-old man, Joseph Kwame Boison, has been arrested for attempting to murder the Western Regional Women's Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Madam Araba Tagoe.
The victim is currently on admission at the GHAPOHA Clinic in Takoradi with multiple cutlass wounds.
Three days later, the suspect was arrested after a tip-off.
Boison, an employee of Cirrus Oil Company in Takoradi, has since been remanded in police custody by the Takoradi Circuit Court to reappear on May 29, 2015.
The Western Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr Isaac Alex Quainoo, told the Daily Graphic that the police were investigating the case, since according to the suspect, he did not know what came over him before he attacked the woman.
He said Boison admitted that he had been undertaking household chores for Madam Tagoe and, therefore, the negative action could have been the result of a high fever.
At her bedside, Madam Tagoe confirmed to the Daily Graphic that Boison was her adopted son so she did not anticipate his behaviour.
The NDC regional women's organiser insisted that the action of the suspect was not politically motivated since "he is a quiet man who had been serving me and does not even take alcohol, nor narcotics".
She maintained that "it is not because of this that I should blame his action on politics, so people should stop reading politics into the issue".
Madam Tagoe explained that she had not seen the suspect for some days and, therefore, she was itching to find out his whereabouts only for him to appear last Sunday with a cutlass and inflict wounds on her forehead, back, breast and other parts of the body.
In the ensuing melee, her daughter, Miss Elsie Ahima Tagoe, a student, used a table to strike the suspect in an attempt to disarm him but he inflicted a wound on her right arm.
Sensing danger the grandchildren of Madam Tagoe quickly rushed to the house of a neighbour who sent her to the clinic.
A report was then made to the police who initiated investigations into the matter.
