Workers of the company went on an industrial strike on Monday over this and other problems but called it off after an intervention by the Transport Minister.
They are demanding the dismissal of the Board Chairman and Deputy Managing Directors over the issue. They have also accused the two management members of being complicit in the missing of 12 buses of the Company’s fleet. According to them, Board Chairman Osabarima Ansah Sasraku III and Deputy MD, John Awuku Dzuazah must step aside for independent investigations to be conducted into the missing buses saga. The MMT was a pro-poor policy introduced to provide safe public transportation to Ghanaians at a relatively low cost. It has, however, been bedeviled by problems every now and then. Monday’s strike was the latest in a streak of issues confronting the operation of the MMT. The Transport Ministry has set up a committee to investigate the various concerns of the workers towards solving the problems at the company. |
