Akufo-Addo is a threat to national security - NDC

3/28/2013

Source: Joy Online

The presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo would have been dead by now if he had resorted to street violence to contest the 2012 election results, Alliance for the Empowerment of NDC Constituency Branch Executives has said.

The group in a statement copied to Myjoyonline.com stated: “First of all, Nana Akufo Addo himself, his cousins and the NPP were lucky and should be thankful that they chose the Supreme Court than the street violent protestation. Why?
Because either Nana Akufo Addo by his own violence is dead by now, or is facing justice at the Supreme Court or is at the International Criminal Court in Hague facing justice for crime against humanity - and many of the leading members of the NPP also suffering the same fate… either dead or facing trial for crime against humanity.”

The group was however confident the security forces would have been in a position to counter any threat of violence in the aftermath of the election, and “neither are we in doubt of the revolutionary spirit of the NDC supporters and foot-soldiers to subject Nana Akufo Addo, the leadership of the NPP and their violent supporters to justice.”

This was contained in a statement issued by the group on Wednesday.

Read a copy of the statement below:

NANA AKUFO- ADDO /NPP A REAL THREAT TO NATIONAL SECURITY… GHANAIANS OWE HIM (NANA AKUFO-ADDO) NO GRATITUDE

Now it is evident that Nana Akufo-Addo and the leadership of the NPP is determined to use the Supreme Court and the eventual ruling of the Justices of the Supreme Court to destabilize the State of Ghana and unleash violence on the people of Ghana.

This mindset and/or agenda finds expression in the political posturing of leading members of the NPP that any ruling against the petitioners/NPP or in favour of President, John Dramani Mahama/NDC will inevitably lead to civil unrest and/or coup d’état - paving way for power sharing or sole presidency.

The state of violence they are seeking to unleash, they will blame it on the Electoral Commission (EC) and the Justices of the Supreme Court for either being directly or indirectly responsible for it. The EC will be charged for being the root cause of a disputed election and the Justices of the Supreme Court for exacerbating the already volatile situation by delaying and/or for giving wrong judgement. Whilst Nana Akufo-Addo, the leadership of the NPP publicly would continue urging all parties to accept the ruling of the Supreme Court.

This is amply being demonstrated by questioning the seriousness/urgency of the Justices of the Supreme Court to hear the case/petition and citing the Kenya example is deliberately aimed at creating a perceptual loss of confidence in the judiciary over the election petition. Hence, the recent attacks in the media against the Justices and also the instigation of the general public, Civil Society, Ghana Bar Association by Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta, Asare Gabby Otchere-Darko to name but a few.

Nana Akufo-Addo, his cousins (Asare Gabby Otchere-Darko, Ken Ofori-Atta etc.) and the NPP cannot be at the Supreme Court and at the same time seeking to mobilize thousands of their supporters onto the street to destabilize the state of Ghana. It cannot be.

It is either Nana Akufo Addo, his cousins and the NPP trust in the Justices of the Supreme Court to hear the case and/or to deliver justices by the law as time will allow them or they choose to withdraw the case/petition from the Supreme Court - and to do their worse (street violence or violent protestation).

First of all, Nana Akufo Addo himself, his cousins and the NPP were lucky and should be thankful that they chose the Supreme Court than the street violent protestation. Why? Because either Nana Akufo Addo by his own violence is dead by now, or is facing justice at the Supreme Court or is at the International Criminal Court in Hague facing justice for crime against humanity - and many of the leading members of the NPP also suffering the same fate… either dead or facing trial for crime against humanity.

The leadership for the “ Alliance for the Empowerment of NDC Constituency Branch Executives" is in no doubt of the security forces readiness to defend the constitution and neither are we in doubt of the revolutionary spirit of the NDC supporters and foot-soldiers to subject Nana Akufo Addo, the leadership of the NPP and their violent supporters to justice. They cannot escape from the violence they are seeking to unleash on the people of Ghana. If they dare we shall bring them to justice either violently or through the Supreme Court/International Criminal Court.

No individual or political party should be allowed in the name of freedom of expression to threaten the State and the people of Ghana with war or civil unrest as Ken Ofori-Atta, Asare Gabby Otchere-Darko with the support of Nana Akufo Addo and the NPP’s leadership is doing currently. No day passes by without the Justices of the Supreme Court being threatened with the charge of their perceived delay tactics or lack of seriousness/urgency to deal with the case or Civil Society urged to be extremely angry and to demonstrate their anger against the justices or against President, John Dramani Mahama’s administration. Or the security forces particularly the police openly ignored, its authority challenged and threatened with violent confrontation. All aimed at creating a state of crisis and controversies.

The NDC is coming to the limit of its institutional and human patience in the face of the state and the people being threatened continuously with war and civil unrest. We owe it to former president Rawlings, the Fourth Republican Constitution and the people to stop these needless threats and demonstrate our ruthlessness in readiness to defend and protect the state of Ghana and the presidency of John Dramani Mahama. The people and indeed corporate Ghana cannot continue to live in fear with threats of war and civil unrest by the opposition party, the NPP.

President, John Dramani Mahama in the name of being Mr. Nice President is showing weakness whilst the opposition NPP is determined more than ever to create a state of tension and crisis. He may sooner than later loose our support as a president and his administration left on its own. But we shall defend the NDC government by all powers invested in us by the Almighty God and by the laws of the land - our loyalty first and foremost is to God, our Country and the NDC and not to any man or woman.

President John Dramani Mahama must give meaning to the oath he swore on January 7th, 2013 before the people of Ghana - he must demonstrate greater responsibility and give practical meaning to the oath. For the oath is not a mere word but greater responsibility and authority.

We are extremely angry that the security forces under your administration are professionally bankrupt and highly irresponsible with respect to their constitutional mandate(s). The police instead of arresting and charging the leadership of the lawless group Let My Vote Count for openly soliciting for support to bomb schools and blow-up vehicles they were invited and served with tea by the police high command. Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta is uninvited for questioning either by the BNI or the police after openly calling for civil unrest in support of the NPP’s petition - also intimidating and threatening the Justices of the Supreme Court. Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta is a free man and the poor 'okada' riders are being arrested and jailed.

Also Rev. Owusu Bempah in the name of God and religion is calling for the government of the people, by the people to be overthrown by coup d’état if the justices of the Supreme Court rules against the NPP or for the NDC. Whilst Osama Bin Laden suffered greatly for seeking to use religion to achieve political change, Rev. Owusu Bempah is free and is in the church collecting offertory.

Mr. President, the weakness of any leader is tolerance of that which is criminal and offensive to the safety and security of the state. Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah suffered it and his life cut short, former President Jerry John Rrawlings did not tolerate it, he survived and he is still alive, and former President J.E.A Mills tolerated it and did not survive… his long life cut short.

Mr. President, we love you… please do not tolerate subversive tendencies of the opposition and learn from our recent history and survive your presidency so that together we can advance the Better Ghana Agenda to its logical conclusion.

In conclusion, the Justices of the Supreme Court must know that their safety and security resides in the sovereign will of the people and not in the coward leadership or membership of the NPP. They are cowards and also sons of women.

Signed:

EBENEZER ARKUTU

CHAIRMAN: THE ALLIANCE FOR THE EMPOWERMENT OF NDC CONSTITUENCY BRANCH EXECUTIVES
